Before we begin we need some tools that we will use for this task.
- A USB flash drive (1GB or more).
- PeToUSB - we will use this for formatting our USB flash drive.
- USBprep.zip - we will use this for making an installer.
- Windows XP installation disk.
- CD/DVD drive - we will use this for copying the Windows XP installation disk files to our USB flash drive.
- First using PeToUSB format your USB flash drive. Make sure that "Enable Disk Format" and "Enable LBA (FAT16X)" options are check before using it.
- Next insert the Windows XP installation disk to your CD/DVD drive.
- After that extract the content of USBprep.zip to desktop. You will see a new folder called usb_prep8
- Now inside that folder open usb_prep8.cmd.
- Press any key.
- Next press 1 and hit the ENTER key. A dialog will open.
- On that dialog select the location of your CD/DVD drive where you inserted the Windows XP installation disk. Then press the OK button to dismiss the dialog.
- Next press 3 and then type the drive letter of your USB flash drive. For example drive F and then hit ENTER key.
- Next press 4 and then hit the ENTER key.
- Next press y and then hit the ENTER key.
- Press any key and wait until copying of Windows XP installation files are complete.
- Next press any key again.

- After that press any key. Now you're USB flash is ready for use in installation of Windows XP.
- Next remove the Windows XP installation disk from your CD/DVD drive but don't remove your USB flash drive.
- Next while your USB flash drive is plug restart your computer.
- Then go to BIOS setup by pressing the DEL key while restarting.
- While on BIOS setup change the boot priority. Make sure that your USB flash drive will boot first.
- Then save your changes before exiting.
- Now if your successful you will see your USB flash drive boot instead of your CD/DVD drive or your Hard disk drive. Now press the option 1 to start the installation of Windows XP.
- That's it the rest procedure is the same as an ordinary installation of Windows XP using CD/DVD drive. Like formatting your Hard disk. That's why I assume that you already know how to do that.
