How to download youtube videos using Google Chrome

Hi guys today I will show you something that is really useful. That is using your own Google Chrome to download a video from youtube.com. Using this trick you don't need to download any youtube video downloader, add extension, or create a bookmark. The only thing you need to be able to download your favorite youtube video is your own Google Chrome. Yes you heard it right just Google Chrome. So if you are ready lets get started.

Procedure:

  1. First open your Google Chrome and then on the current page of it press CTRL+Shift+I. The developer tools will show up at the bottom of Google Chrome.
  2. Next on the current tab of Google Chrome go to youtube.com and watch a video that you want to download. For example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qraPm7OwtVA
  3. After that click the Network tab of developer tools. But remember that before you do that the video must be playing.
  4. Now on the Network tab of developer tools you will see many things that Google Chrome is currently downloading. Our goal here is to find the url of the video that is currently playing on the current tab. To get that url look for "videoplayback" on Name Path of Network tab and then right click on it then select "Copy link adress". Now we already have the url of the video that we want to download. But before we download the actual video we need to do another step.
  5. The next step is to remove the "range=" character up to "&" character without the double quotes from the url of the video. You can use Notepad or any text editor for this purpose. But for me I use Notepad++. After removing those characters you need to copy the url again from your text editor. If you don't see any "range=" character then just ignore step 5 and move on to step 6.
  6. Now the moment of truth. We can now paste the url of the video to the address bar of Google Chrome and then just press ENTER. Chrome will automatically download the video for you.
  7. After downloading the video you need to add an extension name for it. For example if you download flash video you need to add ".flv" without the double quotes to the end of its filename. The result would be something like "videoplayback.flv". The same is true for an MPEG4 video. You need to add .mp4 to its filename. You can determine the file type of the video by looking on the Type tab right beside Name Path tab of Developer tools. That's it we are done!

  3. Hi There, I was able to download the youtube video I wanted using this method. However, there is no sound. There were several Videoplayback links to choose from in the develop tools. Did I choose one that only provides the video or something?
