How to download youtube videos using a bookmark

Update: Currently some videos in Youtube couldn't be downloaded using the bookmarklet in this article especially those came from Vevo. For that reason I recommend not using it at the moment until I have a time to fix it.

Here is an alternative way of downloading youtube videos. Using this method you can download youtube videos in different format like flv, mp4, 3gp, and webm. Also the good thing about this method is you don't need to install any software. The only software we need here is a web browser either Comodo Dragon, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Lunascape (Gecko and Trident engine only), Mozilla Firefox, Opera or Safari. For more info about bookmarks go to Bookmark (World_Wide_Web)

Procedure:

  1. First make sure that the bookmark toolbar of your web browser is visible. On Internet Explorer it is called Favorites Bar.
  2. Next drag and drop the link above (Youtube Downloader) to the bookmark toolbar of your web browser. Now you will see a new bookmark named Youtube Downloader on the bookmark toolbar.
  3.  After that go to youtube.com and then watch a video that you want to download. While watching click the Youtube downloader bookmark then a new tab or window will show up where you can download that video. If the new tab or window does not show up then it means that your web browser blocks it. Just allow pop-up window for youtube.com and try step 3 again.

Video plays instead of start downloading

Sometimes when you click the "Download" link the video start playing in another window or tab instead of starting the download. When that happens just right click the "Download" link and then select "Save Link As" option instead of just left clicking it.
